After years of build up and televised exhibition and club games in 2016, the AFL announced the womens club competition was to start in 2017. Melbourne, Western Bulldogs, Collingwood, Carlton, Adelaide, GWS, Brisbane and Fremantle were all awarded teams for 2017. Each team was allocated two marque players in the first womens draft. Bring on more footy!
